The Early Days: Caesars Palace Grand Prix (1981–1982)

The Las Vegas Grand Prix made its debut in 1981, with races held in the parking lot of Caesars Palace. The 2.268-mile circuit was flat and counter-clockwise, challenging drivers’ endurance in the desert heat. In the inaugural race, Alan Jones clinched victory, while Nelson Piquet secured his first World Championship by finishing fifth. The following year, Michele Alboreto won the race, and Keke Rosberg took the championship title. Despite the glamour of Las Vegas, the event faced challenges, including low attendance and driver discomfort, leading to its discontinuation after 1982.

The Revival: Las Vegas Grand Prix 2023

After a four-decade hiatus, Formula 1 returned to Las Vegas in 2023 with a spectacular night race on the Las Vegas Strip Circuit. The 3.853-mile track featured 17 corners and a 1.2-mile straight, allowing drivers to reach speeds over 210 mph. The race, held on November 18, saw Max Verstappen emerge victorious, followed by Charles Leclerc and Sergio Pérez. The event attracted over 300,000 fans and numerous celebrities, marking a successful return of F1 to the city.
